LabVIEW Software Program Upgrade Consultant

Upgrading Old LabVIEW Software

Call On Our LabVIEW Expertise for Upgrading/Maintaining Your Software

As one of the world's leading LabVIEW Consultants, our LabVIEW Expert & Director Tim Fellows is the perfect choice to update your application.

Maintaining LabVIEW-based software means periodic upgrades. This can mean:

  • Upgrading to newer versions of Windows. We have been asked to make several older programs compatible with the latest version of Windows. In such situations, putting the program into the latest version of LabVIEW is sometimes all that is needed, but some small functional or cosmetic changes also may need to be made to the program to ensure that it works in the right way.
  • Upgrading to newer data acquisition devices. From time to time, data acquisition systems need replacing for various reasons. This may mean some restructuring of the program or changing to a more recent data acquisition driver.
  • Upgrading to a newer version of LabVIEW. You may just wish to have a program built in a newer version of LabVIEW. We have used almost every version back to LabVIEW 3.0.1 and we frequently put programs into newer versions of LabVIEW and solve any problems that this may cause.
  • Adding new features to existing programs. After using a program for a while, users often think of enhancements that would extend the program’s functionality or make it easier to use.
  • Revamping of Tired Old Code. If you have software that looks dated, or is clumsy, inefficient or buggy, we can revamp it.

Had a Hard Time With a “LabVIEW Expert” in the Past?

Have you had a difficult experience with a so-called LabVIEW expert? Not all LabVIEW programmers are equal – far from it! (There are some articles about this here.)

Our LabVIEW expert, Tim Fellows, has a proven track record, having written almost 200 LabVIEW programs, mostly for process control and automated test (ATE), over the last 27 years.

Agencies claim to have good programmers but in reality they will pick up any newcomer who wants to sign with them.  If you get 4 programmers from a LabVIEW agency, perhaps one or two will be moderately experienced and the others will be relative newcomers.  The more experienced one(s) will spend a lot of time checking and correcting the work of the others.

I have seen this first hand.  Companies sometimes feel reassured at the start because of the number of workers being thrown at the project, but later, they regret their decision at length.  To make matters worse it is hard to backpedal later on.  The programmers from the LabVIEW agency can produce so much inefficient code that anyone else taking it over would need a very long time to untangle it all.  Often, the only realistic way to proceed is to start again from scratch, but this can be hard for management to accept.

The moral: the LabVIEW world is like many others, you are better off with one organ grinder than several monkeys
